Serum markers measured before and after twelve weeks

Researchers at Tufts University, working with two clinics in Spain, measured serum TNF and Substance P in 87 participants across twelve weeks. Both markers were significantly elevated at baseline against the control group, and both had decreased significantly by week twelve. Participants reported improvement in functioning, fatigue and general wellbeing from week four onward. The study was open label, without a placebo control.

A study of 2,960 participants with joint discomfort, average age 61, taking 400 mg per day of the marine complex alongside a vitamin B and E complex over 30 days. Nearly 84 percent reported a noticeable improvement in physical performance across the period.

Stamina was measured as oxygen consumption during exercise. Average consumption in participants was 38.3 millilitres per minute per kilogram at day zero, and rose over 21 days of the marine complex against placebo. In a related study, 80 percent of participants recorded an improvement in recuperation after exercise.

Protein contributes to the maintenance of muscle mass and to a growth in muscle mass.

Inhibition of lipid peroxidation in combination with vitamin E

A laboratory study of lipid peroxidation in iron-overloaded hepatocytes. Vitamin E at 250 mm combined with the marine complex at 4 mg per millilitre inhibited lipid peroxidation by more than 90 percent, a stronger result than either agent alone.

Lipid peroxidation is one of the ways free radicals damage cell structures. This is cell culture work rather than a study in people, and is reported here as such.

A study of 688 participants, average age 44, taking 800 mg per day over 15 days. Participants self-reported changes across several measures, including a 54 percent reduction in mental fatigue and a 47 percent improvement in sleep. A separate study recorded reported reductions in fatigue both in the evening and on waking.
